Distribution:
Native to Indonesia. Cultivated in Madagascar, Philippines, Molluca and Zanzibar. -
Description of plant:
An evergreen columnar tree to thirty feet with reddish-brown nail-shaped flower buds and small grey leaves. The Latin “clavus” means nail-shaped.

Extraction:
Water distillation of the buds, leaves, or stalks and stems.

Charactersitics:
A pale yellow liquid with characteristic sweet-spicy-woody odour.

Odour effects:
Stimulating, pungent.

Cautions:
A definite skin irritant. Use in massage only in minute doses.

Beta-caryophyene, humulenes – 6%
Eugenol, aceteugenol, isoeugenol – 90%
